Your Daily Calm

Daily meditation has been a long time goal of mine, one that I have found challenging. After my summer root canal experience, I decided it was time to make training my mind a bigger priority. This led me to the Calm app.

So, first, I’m not here to sell you anything. In fact, I get nothing from sharing this (other than the benefit of those I know being well, more peaceful).

I freaking ADORE this app.

Why?

First, I love the daily offerings. Each day, there is a ten minute or less Daily Calm meditation, Daily Trip meditation, Daily Move, and the Daily Jay teaching (with Jay Shetty). My whole system relaxes the minute I turn one on. I love waking up to the Daily Move with Mel. She’s so calming and the three exercises always make my body feel great. The meditations are different each day, giving me new means of stilling my mind, and mindfulness tips to ponder along the way.

Second, I love the music. My favorite right now is Songs for Cozy Mornings with Novo Amor (who just happens to be a Welshman – did I mention my grandmother was born in Wales?). My heart just lifts as soon as I turn it on. Another favorite is the 3D Serenity Sound Bath. I find singing bowls to be so healing, and listening to this recording makes me feel so balanced. The app offers music for deep sleep, winding down, rising and shining, yoga and movement, focus, uplifting, and more.

Third, I love the soundscapes. I sometimes have trouble sleeping and when I turn on the sound of a thunderstorm, or rain on a tent, I find it easier to let go and drift back to sleep. I also love listening to sounds of nature while I write. I’ve only just started to explore this section, but a current favorite is A Day in Dublin.

Fourth, I love the sleep stories. These are often read by famous people (Matthew McConaughey and Harry Styles are two of them). I love Grounded and Dream with Me. There are also actual bedtime stories for both kids and adults, and stories that take you to exotic places, like the Arctic Cruise or Norway’s Lofoten Islands.

There are also classes, timed meditations, and other tools. I haven’t spent as much time with them yet, but I hope to soon.

So, if you feel like you could use a bit of calm, consider checking out the Calm app. They offer a free trial and then it is a small monthly fee. For me, it is a game changer.

And here is a photo of one of my favorite calming places . . .
